Why Chamonix makes the ideal luxury holiday destination

Chamonix, host of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, has long been a mecca for skiers, mountaineers and adventurers. As tourist interest in the resort has grown, it has become increasingly popular with those seeking the very best high end ski holidays in France. So what has attracted this discerning clientele to Chamonix and just how is the town able to compete with other top resorts when it comes to luxury and convenience?

Firstly, Chamonix’ is extremely well-located at just over an hour from Geneva airport by road and 30 minutes by helicopter. This allows visitors to maximise their relaxation and slope-time for both short and long stays whilst business travellers can easily reach the airport or city to attend meetings.

Chamonix enjoys some of the best mountain scenery in the world with dramatic views from almost every angle. Architects have capitalised on this in their building designs with many luxury lodges in Chamonix offering inspiring views of the Mont Blanc massif.

Another of Chamonix’ draws is its range of activities open to non-skiers. When it comes to the skiing itself, they are few resorts that can rival Chamonix. Whilst, the area may be best known as an off-piste skier’s paradise, there are fantastic high-altitude slopes for all levels including beginners. Furthermore, In the Grands Montets area, 3300 metres above Argentiere, the snow coverage is remarkable up until May.
