Halal Holiday Destinations for 2012
At the start of 2012, Qatar, Brunei and Jordon were all named amongst the world’s top 10 Muslim-friendly holiday hotspots located within the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). With an increasing demand for halal friendly options, it’s no surprise to see other major cities starting to shape up and increase their ability to cater for Muslims. Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permitted and not only refers to food but also industries such as banking and travel. This enables Halal conscious travellers to explore the world while enjoying services and travel facilities that cater to their religious beliefs. You don’t just have to stick to the countries you’d expect to find a large Muslim population to find the best halal friendly travel, here are four top destinations that are increasingly catering for the halal travellers.
Munich
Germany’s capital city, Berlin, won the award for the most liveable city in 2010 so it’s no surprise that more than four million Muslims have decided to pick Germany as their home. With so many Muslims locally, it’s not hard to come across halal friendly restaurants or food shops. There also a good amount of mosques dotted around, all this in addition to learning about the history and culture of Munich with its many tourist attractions.
Argentina
The largest mosque in the whole of Latin America can be found in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires so halal products are available. Unfortunately they are not as readily available as they can be in other nearby destinations but as the demand is growing, so is the area’s ability to cater for the Muslim community. Argentina is an area famed for its love of steak and other red meats so you could say they are a bit behind with the vegetarian options too.
London
One of the great things about a 24/7 city like London is that whatever time of day it is, you can be sure there is a local take away just round the corner and that it’s open. Whether you fancy Chinese, Turkish or American you can find just what you want, the same goes for halal options. London is home to around 40% of the UK’s Muslim community and it’s not just the food options that are supporting this. There has also been an introduction of female butlers and prayer rooms in hotels too.
Gold coast
The Gold coast is a picturesque destination that caters for all types of travellers, including Muslims. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the holy month of Ramadan, The Gold Coast has it all, picturesque beaches and theme parks, and for its Muslim visitors prayer rooms and Halal restaurants. Muslim tourists visiting during the Holy month of Ramadan will also find a great selection of specially prepared Iftaar and Suhour meals as well as numerous night activities.
