: Coming to Denmark is not complete without visiting its capital city, Copenhagen. This city has got a lot of downtown areas, which makes it pretty cool if you love the city life. It’s just so refreshing to see a city without hundreds of industrial buildings everywhere and has plenty of great vintage classical buildings surrounding the harbor.

Copenhagen is what they call the gateway to Scandinavia because it is located on the east coast of this Danish island- Zealand, which leads to different Scandinavian territories. This city’s name is also translated as The New Harbor so don’t be surprised to see the harbor area never running out of people hanging out either on the boat or around the sidewalks to have beer as they enjoy the live music coming from street musicians.

Copenhagen is also known for their white beaches and the great thing about it is that it’s so near from the city, you can go there riding a bike! This town is encouraging people to save the environment by putting up bike lanes so they can just roam around using it rather than petrol operated vehicles.

Another fascinating fact about this town is the existence of the oldest theme park in the world, which is the Tivoli Gardens. Children of all ages come here twice a week to witness the awesome fireworks display that will make you forget all your troubles and just be right there in the moment enjoying life.

If you love arts then your next stop should be at the Denmark National Gallery where you can witness 700 years of artifacts preserved inside this very building for you to marvel on and be inspired. The city itself looks like a living museum because of the gorgeous architectural structures of their walls, and walking on their streets will make you recall of stories involving Kings and Queens.

Speaking of royalty, you can also visit the royal palace but unfortunately just outside the yard. They do have strict guards outside but unlike the guards at Buckingham Palace, these guys are actually talking! They respond to tourist’s queries but they don’t accept food or drink so please don’t invite them to eat.

From the royal palace, it’s time to do some shopping at Stroget! All merchandise is laid on the streets and you will surely find some great deals on shoes, bags, apparel and other fashionable accessories. The one thing that you won’t easily find here though is food. So if you plan to hit this place, make sure you have snacks on the road.

After shopping, you can enjoy the nightlife and drink the national beverage of this country- BEER! Paint the town red and just relax by the harbor underneath the stars.
Visiting Copenhagen is not complete without seeing the famous statue of the Little Mermaid from Hans Christian  Andersen’s fairy tale- the Little Mermaid. It has become a real tourist attraction and a little bit of a tradition that if you ever visit this town, you have got to see and touch the Little Mermaid!

The next attractive piece of artifact in Copenhagen is the church of St. Alban. It’s architectural structure is so exquisite it’s impossible not to be amazed just by staring at it.

Copenhagen has a very diverse environment as you’ll get to meet different people from different parts of the world. To those who have travelled or live in the US, they say that this city is even more diverse than America. Having said that, touring here won’t make you feel alone because you’re not the only one who is not a local in the place.

People from different walks of life are here and not just the rich ones. You will be surprised on who you could meet here because everybody is just so friendly and approachable.

Moreover, if you’re tired of cycling and you want to rest your muscles from all that leg work; you can commute by riding their trains, which is more fun as you get to see the city without sweating a lot. The climate here can be really cold. But if you want to experience some real sweat, you can always jog around the neighborhood like everybody else especially before sunrise.

I encourage you to visit this town so that you can see for yourself that Copenhagen is more than just a city, it’s a classic.
